  • Scanned or image-only files

Are Canva, Word and Google Docs templates ATS-safe?

Are Canva resume templates ATS-friendly?

Most are not. Canva's popular resume designs rely on text boxes, multi-column grids, icons and background graphics. When an applicant tracking system parses the PDF it reads the boxes in an unpredictable order, so job titles get separated from dates and whole sections can be dropped. If you use Canva, pick a strictly single-column layout with no sidebars, no icons and no tables — or rebuild it here.

Are Microsoft Word resume templates ATS-safe?

Word's built-in templates are safer than design tools, but several of them place contact details inside the document header and use tables for the experience section. Many parsers ignore header/footer content and flatten tables incorrectly. Keep your name, email and phone in the body of the document, avoid tables and text boxes, and save as .docx or a text-based PDF.

Do Google Docs resume templates pass ATS?

The plain Google Docs templates (Serif, Coral, Spearmint) parse reasonably well because they are single column, but the Swiss and Modern Writer options use tables and columns that confuse parsers. Always export as PDF rather than sharing a link, and confirm the PDF text can be selected and copied.

What makes a resume template ATS-friendly?

One column, standard section headings (Summary, Experience, Education, Skills), real selectable text instead of images, common fonts, no tables or text boxes, and dates written consistently. Every template on this page follows those rules and exports to both PDF and Word.
